Do I have to be LGBTQ+ to play for the Unicorns?
No, you don’t have to be LGBTQ+ to to join. Membership is open to all regardless of their background, sexuality or gender.
Can I join if I am a beginner or haven't played cricket in a while?
Yes, we welcome anybody who is interested in cricket. Our members include people who have played for years and people who are starting to play cricket for the first time and have played their first ever matches with the Unicorns.
Equipment is available to borrow at training and matches so come along and give it a go!

Can women play for the Unicorns?
Yes, Birmingham Unicorns is a gender inclusive club and has women, men and non-binary people as members.
In 2024, we launched our Women's only Team who have 8 fixtures in a Women's Tournament in Birmingham.
Are the Unicorns trans-inclusive?
Yes, we are trans-inclusive and believe opportunities to participate in sport should be open to everyone.
Equipment
Do I need to have equipment or kit?
Feel free to come along to training if you don’t have equipment. We have club equipment in the form of balls, bats and protective equipment (e.g. pads and gloves) available to borrow - this will be available at all training sessions.

Signing Up
How do I join?
You can join as either as a Social Member (non-playing & non-training) or as a Playing Member (full access to training, coaching and being selected for matches). Concession rates are available. Please get in touch with us to for more information.
How do social memberships work?
If playing cricket isn’t for you but you’d like to support the club then a social membership is the perfect option. You can attend all social functions and will be kept up to date on fixtures and results.
Location
When and where do the Unicorns play games?
We currently play home games at Lapworth CC, south-east of Birmingham.
There are also a number of games organised, each season against opposition in and around Birmingham and the Midlands.
When and where is training?
We train indoors during the Winter months (Jan-Apr) at King Edward Five Ways School on Saturday mornings.
In the summer, training is on Monday evenings at Weoley Hill CC, Valley Parkway between 6pm to 8pm.

Socials
What about the Social aspect?
We host regular social events across Birmingham both during the season and in the off-season.
Socials vary in activities from darts and mini-golf to hikes in the Malvern Hills and board games ensuring there is a social for everyone.
In 2025 we signed a deal with Eden Bar Birmingham to host our major social events and Awards Presentation Evening.
